Saturday

Woohoo for a weekend with only one kid playing sports!  Woohoo for a hail storm that cancelled that one kids sports!  Boohoo for sons who play baseball in the backyard through said storm and drag mud throughout my house...that I had just cleaned.

While cleaning the living room windows, I looked outside to see this...

Holy Hail!  Worst storm I've ever seen.  Thankfully our cars were left undamaged, but my nephews front window was busted and he has dents all over his car :(

I guess Brady was so excited to go outside that he grabbed the first two shoes he found!

When I looked out the back window, I witnessed Carter do this...

No way Brady was missing out on the fun!

The 1st baseline was flooded and the perfect place to play an intense game of hot-box.  Bennett played too, but from a dry spot under the tree.  He's no dummy!

Brady's bath water after Scott hosed him down. Aren't boys gross?!?

Oh Brother(s)!

One incident...three very different reactions.

Cate was on the playground at preschool and a little boy slapped her in the face. (Just four year olds being four years olds.  The teacher took care of it and all is well.  Except, the little boy {who is a really great kid with an awesome family} happens to live across the street.)

Cate mentioned it to me in passing when she got out of school but waited to be dramatic about it until she had a much more attentive audience :)

The scene:  Carter, Bennett, and Brady are sitting on the couch watching Survivor.  Cate walks into the room and stands right in front of the tv.  All eyes focus on her.

Cate:  Today at school, I was at the top of the jungle gym and a boy slapped me right across the face. And that boy lives right across the street (making pointed finger gestures towards his house)

Bennett:  *sigh* "You cry?"

Carter:  "But you're tough, did you hit him back??? You definitely should have hit him back but only harder"

Brady:  "WHAT???  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  ARE YOU OK?  I'M GOING OVER THERE RIGHT NOW.  I JUST NEED TO TALK TO HIM.  I'M NOT GOING TO YELL, BUT I NEED TO TELL HIM THAT HE CAN'T BE DOING THAT.  WHERE ARE MY SHOES?  I'M GOING OVER THERE RIGHT NOW. NO, YOU CALM DOWN, I'M GOING OVER THERE!!!! "

Oh. Dear. Lord.  Cate should come with a warning label...
I've got three big brothers and I know how to use them.

Not Fair...

This is a picture of Carter (left) and his teammate Bruce. They are both freshman.  I honestly think the picture doesn't even do the size difference justice...the top of Carter's head doesn't reach Bruce's shoulder. However, even with being the smallest on the team, Carter is playing awesome at 2nd base!  And he is loving every minute of the baseball season.  And their team is pretty damn good.  GO WARRIORS!!

Dear Growth Spurt that every other one of Carter's friends has already been through,
PLEASE HURRY!
Sincerely,
Carter's Mom

Bennett's Birthday Dinner

After we dropped Carter off for the prom festivities, we decided tonight would be the perfect time to take Bennett out to celebrate his 10th birthday. He doesn't actually turn double digits until Monday, but with our schedule, well, it was either tonight or sometime in July :) He chose Joe's Crab Shack...duh. Not that he's ever been there, but for the last five years, every.time we drive by, he says "When can we go to Joe's Crab Shack???" Well, tonight was the night.
Bennett has never had crab meat before, but he's always anxious to eat anything that he's seen prepared and served on Food Network!! And who doesn't love wearing a bib?!
Even got one on Grandpa Duane! I'm thinking this must be framed and hung in our house, somewhere with high traffic :)
Uh-oh, someone let our waitress know that we're celebrating a birthday! (ok, it was me)
SuperBen got to wear a cape and run around the restaurant while everyone sang to him!!!I never would have thought he would do this....so out of character for Mr. Ben
We will reward him with Bobby's Frozen Custard! And it became clear that we don't ever have to worry about Bennett finding a date to prom. Gross boys stay home on prom night :)
Little Bennie turns 10 Monday. BOOOOHOOOO!! Next year will be his last in elementary school. Double BOOOOHOOOO!! Time flies when you've got great kids! Happy Early Birthday B-Nut!!

Prom!

Today was my first prom as a mom! Potentially only 15 proms left!! Carter and the rest of the Student Council underclassman had to work the senior prom tonight. In GC, seniors are the only ones who can buy tickets and they can (actually I think HAVE to) bring a date...but dates have to be sophmores or older. So, only six freshman are allowed in...the StuCo reps. Originally, Carter was not thrilled about this, but he soon warmed up to it and was really looking forward to tonight. Of course, last night he let me know that he can't find his dress slacks, his dress shirt no longer fits, and would like to wear suspenders. I think I'll keep notes of how much prom costs me over the 16 years. Year one=$112.

Me and my first born :)

Bennett was our official prom photographer and when he was ready to take this, Carter said "everyone smile and say if our family looked like this, our lives would be easier" Bennett did not find this funny. Everyone met at Abbie's house for pictures before her mom--> Meghan, and Mama Michelle drove them over to the hall. I believe there was some shopping planned and then they would pick them back up and take them to the highschool where the after-prom party is being held. (11pm-4am...so glad I wasn't asked to volunteer!!)

Freshman Student Council...representing at prom :)

I'm sure they're having a great time and I will be posting more pictures soon...after I steal them off facebook pages!!!!

Kite Day

Today was Kite Day at Cate's school. Scott took a half-day so he could go with us...I'm not sure I would have been able to chase Hadley and assemble/fly a kit without him!

A little ride for the ladies before leaving
Reid, Macee, and CateAs soon as she got her kite flying high, she said "I need shade, let's go" And home we went :)
Hadley is a big hit with Cate's classmates (Avery, Hadley, Cate)

Community Garden

Last weekend, the kids helped my parents plant potatoes in the Community Garden at the Old Six Mile Museum. It's just right around the corner from our house and Ben and Brady love riding their bikes over there to help out when needed.

Bennett dropped the potatoes into place

Cate and Brady helped my dad pull the dirt back on top of the potatoes

She needed several "shade breaks"...and who gardens in a white dress????

Back of the museum
Blackberries!
I think my dad increased the main garden by 4765%...he probably shouldn't be allowed to use a tiller without supervision :)
Roses!
