KC

A few weeks ago (yes, I realize my blog is a little far behind), we spent the weekend in Kansas City cheering on our favorite 8U soccer team.  It was our first trip with our new van and she did not disappoint!  In fact, half way to our destination, Scott commented on how quiet and peaceful the trip had been thus far...back seat was watching The Bee Movie, middle seats were watching GrownUps, and we were listening to the radio and listening to our gps lady tell us where to go...technology keeps parents from driving off cliffs...of this, I'm convinced.

Ok, the trip was peaceful until we stopped in Columbia to eat dinner at Steak N Shake.  I don't know what the issue was, but Brady was fired up about it.  He pouted all the way through dinner and refused to order anything.  Fine by me.  You no order, you no eat.  Except...our waitress sweet-talked him and fawned over him until he finally gave in and ordered just as we were finishing our meal.  Grrrrrr.  I was not thrilled to have to sit around and wait for a now-happy Brady to eat, but we got through it and back on the road we went. Kids.  Are.  Fun.

Suck it up buttercup.

Bennett brought the Xbox and I was thrilled to get to lay in bed and watch him play MineCraft all night. Not.

Our hotel was super nice and had a great pool area and outside patio with firepits and comfy furniture!
We woke up Saturday morning to rain.  Lots and lots of rain.  Actually, it was beautiful when Scott woke up and started his run, but quickly turned bad and he got caught in a downpour.  Which is why you shouldn't run while out of town.  Duh.
The great thing about playing on a turf field is that they do not cancel games for rain.  Isn't that great?!

Cate and I hung out in the car during warm-ups.   She loves that the back bench reclines with the touch of a button and it has seat warmers.  Nothing but the best for her tush :)

Apparently, sitting in the car was just for me though, because once we got outside, she tossed her umbrella down and played in the rain with Mac and Cal the entire time. They were soaked!

Intense game of hide-n-seek

After the game (we won), we headed back to the hotel to change and then met everyone at Jason's Deli for lunch.  It was really good.  I recommend the Chicken Pot Pie soup...hit the spot after sitting out in the rain
And then just like that, the sun came out and the rest of the day was perfect!

Our entire team played awesome all weekend, but these two...Luke and Brady...were on fire!  Those little blond defense men didn't let anything by them...SO fun to watch!!

Coach Mike is so patient and good with these boys and they all have a great respect for him (parents too!)
Watching our older SLSG team play
Surprised Mike with a cake and song for his birthday

And then we left Jess to deal with cake duties. (Notice Cate is right up there and got the first piece.  Sister loves her some cake!!)

Undefeated going into the Championship Game!!

It was a tough game and we were tied going into overtime.  Unfortunately, tournaments like to remain on-time, so they don't bother with extra playing time and we went straight into penalty kicks.  I hate penalty kicks!!!
Even the siblings were nervous! (btw, I love that Bennett has so many kids to play with during Brady's games)

Cole and Brady were so nervous/excited when Brady K. saved a PK!!

And then the ref called the save back because she said he inched off his line before the kid kicked it.  UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVABLE.  These are 8 year olds!!!
Brady taking his shot.  ALL eyes on him.  No pressure, right?  Geez!  He buried it though and I could breathe again.

We ended up losing in the 2nd round of PK's, but the kids handled it like champs and were all smiles for their group pictures :)

Overall, it was one of the best sports trips we've taken...we all had a great time. This group of boys and parents are so much fun to be around and I hope they are teammates for a long time to come.

Next up....DISNEYWORLD 3v3 in January.  WOOO to the HOOO! Can't wait!

Disney on Ice

I think I have written this same post for several years now!

On Thursday afternoon, my friend Rachel posted a picture on facebook of her girls dressed as Disney princesses and heading to Disney on Ice.  Crap.  I thought it was next weekend.  We were leaving for KC on Friday and I had a ton to do, but Cate looovvvesss Disney on Ice and it's only in town twice a year, so I decided to go for it.  Because I didn't decide we were going until 5:30 and the show started at 7:00, I wasn't sure we could even get tickets, but I figured it it was sold out, I would take her to the Disney Store at the Galleria and knew she'd be happy either way :) Luckily, they had just released some more tickets and we scored two 5th row seats for $12 each (w/no service charge).  WOOHOO!!

Chaifetz Arena.  SLU has such a purty campus

Closest we've been yet!  Catie Bug was super excited.

The show was 100 Years of Magic and I thought it was really good.  I have a very hard time sitting still for more than 5 minutes but this program kept my attention fairly well.  I loved that it showcased a lot of different movies and characters but each set was short.  Cate's favorite part was the princess routine (of course!) and my favorites were the army guys from ToyStory and the Incredibles.  Very entertaining!

Aladdin

Finding Nemo

Toy Story
My favorite thing about Disneyworld are the parades and this part of the program recreated the Magic Kingdom light parade.  When the music started, (before the set was revealed), Cate gasped and said "I love the night parade!!!"  And everyone said she was too young to remember the trips!  Ha!  I closed my eyes, and that music took me right back to Main Street and closing out our magical day with an amazing parade :)  I can't wait to go back!!

Ooooh!Ahhhh!

The finale brought all of the characters back on stage for a dance party.  Perfect way to end the show!

On the way out of the arena, a lady handed her a flyer for the next show.  Cate stopped and read the headline to us (damn the luck that those are her wall words.  Gone are the days that I could make something up that benefited me!) ....
COME BACK ON FEBRUARY 8 TO SEE DISNEY LIVE!!

"MOM!  A new Disney show is coming ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!  Isn't that wonderful??"  Then she turned to the lady, threw her a 'thumbs up', and said "We'll be back!"

And I bet she's right  :)
